Electricity North West's history traces back over 120 years. January 1890 saw the first public supply in the region, and the business formed in 2007 — by 2010, we were operating and maintaining the network. Today, we're proud to continue a service that began in Keswick over a century ago.
There are many challenges ahead for the energy industry, so a vital part of our job at Electricity North West is planning for tomorrow. We're always developing new ways to adapt to the changing world and deliver a brighter, more sustainable future.
Over the next 25 years, the population of the North West is expected to grow by 10%; the demand for electricity in the UK is expected to double by 2050; and we need to pave the way for a low-carbon future. This means reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and making sure that wind and solar power sources can connect directly to our network.
We are able to operate thanks to the support of our employees across the business in dedicated directorates, from support functions including Finance, Commercial Strategy and Support and Customer and Corporate Services, to our operational directorates including Energy Solutions, Engineering and Technical and Operations.
