Working for us

Welcome to our careers portal.

If you are considering a career within the energy and utilities sector you couldn’t be joining at a more exciting time. We’re currently on a journey to ensure we meet the demands of both a low carbon future and the increase in demand for electricity – which is expected to double by 2050.

What does this mean to us? A low carbon network will mean customers are encouraged to take a more intelligent approach to their use of electricity with the introduction of smart meters. To support this we are continually adapting the way we work so we can move from being a passive ‘one-way’ network to a network where we actively manage the varying flows of power – a smart network.

People are key to us achieving success. Our operational front line teams are customer facing and the people you will see out and about across the North West. Working round the clock they are responsible for ensuring that faults across the network are repaired as quickly and safely as possible to ensure we restore power to our customers across the North West. Our operational teams play an instrumental part in delivering a varied range of capital programmes to ensure we retain an up to date network. This can include the building of new substations, replacing old wooden poles and putting in place new underground cables. To make this happen we need a vast array of specialist support teams to ensure we have the expertise and resource to deliver our business goals and provide a reliable power supply to our customers, which you can read about under the ‘Our Business’ section.

If you are embarking on your future career and perhaps considering a role with us as an apprentice, trainee engineer or graduate, our specialist training programmes will equip you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in a sector with significant skill shortages. Our investment in training and developing our people is demonstrated by our new dedicated Training Academy in Blackburn which will allow us to continue to grow and develop future talent.

Alternatively, if you are an experienced professional looking for your next step then take a look at our current opportunities. If the current opportunities do not meet your skill set then why not try our job agent facility which will trigger a notification if we advertise a role which suits you.

Whatever stage of your career we wish you success and would encourage you to learn more about the roles available within the electricity distribution sector in the North West.
