Training & Development

The first 12 weeks of your training will be based at our state-of-the-art Training Academy in Blackburn. Depending on your home location youmay be required to stay overnight during the week. If you would need to stay, then we make all the arrangements for you and will cover the cost.

To help you get to know your fellow apprentices, during your first couple of weeks you'll go on an outward bound residential. This is a great few days which will help build a foundation for team work which will be important through your apprenticeship and into your career. You'll take part in team building activities designed to be fun and help you get to know each other.

Throughout your apprenticeship you'll develop your electrical skils with both professional training and on the job experience. You'll be supported all the way by our highly skilled team of trainers as well as craftspeople, engineers and support staff from our operational teams.

After 3 years you will have completed an industry recognised level 3 Power Network Apprenticeship and be equipped with the experience and high-quality training to take on a permanent role with us. You will spend 80% of your time working in our communities and seeing what our teams do. This will mean you can learn from the knowledge and experience of professionals across our business as well as building a portfolio of jobs and projects you've been involved in.

After you've successfully completed your apprenticeship, you'll be ready to start your career as either an Overhead Line Worker or Cable Jointer with Electricity North West.
