Our selection process

This is your opportunity to impress us: We want you to show us what you know and what you can do. To be successful, you'll need to progress through each part of the selection process.

Stage 1 - Application

First, you’ll need to complete our online application form and attach a copy of your CV. This is your chance to tell us why you are a perfect fit for our Graduate Engineer Programme. Make sure you include all your skills and experiences, and provide information on the qualifications you hold or expect to achieve - including grades. You also need to confirm which locations you are able to work from. We’ll use this information to determine if you’re eligible to progress to the next stage, so it is important that you take the time to include as much relevant information as possible.

Stage 2 – Telephone Interview

If your application impresses us, you will be invited to undertake a telephone interview. The purpose of the interview is to ensure that you fully understand what will be required and the commitment you will need to make during the training programme and beyond. Also to measure your motivation regarding the role and increase your knowledge about our business.

Stage 3 – Ability tests

If you are successful following your telephone interview, you’ll be invited to complete some online ability tests.

Stage 4 - Assessment Centre

Well done! We think you've got the right mix of skills and behaviours to join us, so we’ve asked you to attend an assessment centre. This is our chance to find out a bit more about you and your suitability for the programme. Come prepared to answer a series of questions about how you approach situations and be ready to talk about your past experiences. This is an important chance for you to ask us any questions, and make sure our programme is right for you.

If selected to attend an assessment day you’ll be asked to bring your original qualification certificates. In the case of predicted grades you will be required to provide formal evidence as soon as you receive your results and before you commence employment with us.

You will also be required to bring a valid passport or a full birth certificate and proof of your National Insurance number to show that you’re eligible to work in the UK.

Stage 5 – Offer

Congratulations, we want you to join our Graduate programme. If you get to this stage, you’re already on your way to shaping your future in the energy industry. We'll ask for references covering the last two years of your education or employment history and you will need to attend a medical assessment to ensure you are fit for the job.

Stage 5 - Starting the programme

Once accepted, you'll be given a start date to begin your career with Electricity North West.

At each stage of the process we will contact you by email to let you know how your application is progressing. Please be aware of any filters or firewalls that may prevent you from receiving emails: remember to check your spam or junk folders regularly, as we cannot be held responsible for lost emails.

If we do not receive a response to any instructions via email we will automatically assume you are no longer interested in pursuing the programme.
